United Way Goes Green

United Way is committed to the people of central Maryland, which means we’re committed to a cleaner, greener region too. That’s why this year, United Way officially launched a GREEN team. Here are some of the initiatives that have been implemented so far:

  • Motion-sensor energy saving lights have been installed
  • Desktop recycling bins have been provided to all staff
  • We recycle paper, ink and laser cartridges and computer monitors and hard drives
  • When possible, we use recycled paper and soy-based inks for printed materials (Check out the annual report— nine trees and 1,843 gallons of water were saved)
  • Coffee machines are per-use only, no wasted water or heating elements
  • Subsidies are offered for mass transit use
  • We donated one of our vans to the Kidney Foundation
  • The water coolers are environmentally friendly
  • We encourage electronic giving through e-way, eliminating the paper pledge process
  • The new hand sanitizers promote healthy & germ-free living
  • All new light bulbs are energy-saving bulbs
